Why do you appreciate Sonic?

We all have our reasons for appreciating sonic, maybe you liked the cartoons or you loved following the character through the comics but for me he was my stepping stone into gaming. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't be a gamer today. I mean, I was exposed to gaming before I played sonic, but sonic was the game that mattered. I still rember that fateful christmas night when I got my genesis bundled with sonic 2. Memories of seeing sonic for the first time running left to right spelling out the word SEGA, breezing through emerald hill and seeing sonic almost run off screen in chemical plant are all still fresh in my mind. Not only that but helped SEGA compete with Nintendo and because of this the we  got a lot awesome games. But enough about me. why do you appreciate sonic and  why do you still follow him to this day?

I will admit that I like the treasure hunting stages in Sa2. They add a nice variety to the mix of styles of gameplay. and it is different than the same old running fast gameplay. Plus, the hints make me think like a detective(batman anyone?) which is cool. I also like the shooting stages as well, because they make Tails look badass and they give you the ultimate Eggman gameplay experience.
